Endless Wall, Apollo Ascent, Apollo Sanctum Gate, & Apollo Sanctum pt. 1
← Prev | Next →
[Complete version on GameFAQs!]
Endless Wall
[When you approach the gate:]
Disembodied Voice: Ye whose goal is the light, show to me three treasures so that I might see them with my own eyes.
[Matthew holds up all three orbs at once without juggling or anything. The gate opens.]
-Onward!-
Apollo Ascent
Gate: The path of light may not be trod without mourning those who passed into shadow. First, bring fire to the deceased's eyes, then cleanse the forehead with a drop of water. Next, blow a cool breeze across the nose, and finally, walk the path described by the scent of mourning incense.
[After you use Whirlwind:]
Random Text God: Some kind of aroma hangs heavy in the air...
-Onward!-
Apollo Sanctum Gate
[Once you head up the stairs:]
Disembodied Voice: The gates to Apollo Sanctum will open for one who can align our emblems correctly.
[After you get the four emblems to lower the first four gates:]
Disembodied Voice: Death is the dark reflection of life. To enter, create my dark reflection.
Apollo Sanctum
[As you head up the stairs, the light becomes so strong it's acting more like wind.]
Kraden: The light here is so strong, you'll need protection to survive it.
[Matthew runs back down to the pavilion where it's in shadow.]
Kraden: Hmm... Himi's prophecy... We must clothe ourselves in shadow, or rather, in the Umbra Gear! Ah, of course! This is why the Umbra Gear is important. Time for Sveta to step into the limelight...er, so to speak. This will all depend on you.
Sveta: What am I to do?
Kraden: Well, this equipment is tailored for a Morgal beastman to wear.
Tyrell: Sounds like Sveta's the girl for the job, all right. But why is the gear just for beastmen?
Kraden: The Apollo Lens is the product of cooperation between the ancient Jenei and Morgal beastmen.
Karis: And the beastmen did the physical labor, so they were wearing the equipment.
Eoleo: So why is it the "Umbra Gear"?
Amiti: Because if we are to survive the light, we must wrap ourselves in the umbra- another word for shadow.
Kraden: Very good, Amiti.
Sveta: And so that is where I must step in? All right... Here I go...
Rief: Do we really know that the Umbra Gear alone will be enough to protect her?
Kraden: There's no way of knowing for sure.
Sveta: I have faith in our leader. Matthew, will you guide me?
Kraden: Ah, Matthew... Of course...
Tyrell: You don't think Matthew can do it, do you, Kraden?!
Kraden: Don't be absurd. Of course I do. Matthew, you've led us well to this point. Now guide Sveta through this last obstacle.
Sveta: Once we come out up there, I'll be in danger. Don't let me down...please.
-Onward!-
[When you go back up, Sveta appears in front of you.]
Random Text God: -While in the brighter spots, pay close attention to the Umbra Gear's endurance gauge.-
-The endurance gauge slowly increases while you are in bright spots.-
-If the gauge goes too high, the Umbra Gear will fail, and you will be swallowed up by the light.-
-When the gauge is high, hide in a shadow, such as by a pillar, and let the gauge get lower.-
-When you are in a bright spot, keep an eye on the level of the Umbra Gear’s endurance gauge.-
-Onward!-
[Trying to get the Sol Blade before you place all three orbs:]
Random Text God: The sword won't budge...
-Onward!-
[Checking a pedestal:]
Random Text God: This large table seems to invite you to place something on it.
Random Text God: Sveta uses the [Color] Orb.
[Once you place all three orbs, the pedestal around the sword lights up. Matthew pulls it out all dramatically and holds it up.]
Random Text God: Matthew and party got the Sol Blade.
[Paths light up on the floor and from the areas where the Orbs were used, new equipment rises. The statute also rises to reveal a door with a sun pattern and a small slot on it.]
-Onward!-
[Checking the door:]
Random Text God: The symbol of the sun is inscribed on the door, and there is a large opening that looks like a keyhole. Would you like to insert something?
Random Text God: Matthew uses the Sol Blade.
[He acts all fancy as he puts it in the door and it opens.]
-Onward!-
[When the lens is ready to go and you head back outside:]
Arcanus: [off-screen] Ah, good. Have you finished with the preparations?
[The image spins to one of the landings where Arcanus is standing.]
Matthew: #*@%!
Karis: How-?
Rief: You!
Tyrell: What's he doing here?!
Sveta: Arcanus!
Amiti: Here?
Himi: This one has great power.
Eoleo: What kinda name is "Arcanus"?
Arcanus: Tyrell, son of Garet... You seem displeased to see me.
Tyrell: I'm only displeased to see you still breathing!
[Arcanus floats for a second, then warps a few a feet in front of them.]
Arcanus: Ah, the impulsiveness, the overconfidence... You really are your father's son.
Tyrell: Y-you know my dad?
Arcanus: Obviously.
Karis: Who are you? Why do you know so much about us?
Kraden: Hello, Alex.
Rief: Alex?! The Mercury Clan's traitor? My mother's betrayer? THAT Alex?!
Arcanus: What makes you think I am this "Alex"?
Kraden: We traveled together for some time, Alex. I haven't forgotten.
[Even though anyone who played the GBA games has known since Konpa cave, the game finally calls him Alex.]
Alex: You flatter me, Kraden.
Tyrell: And I'll flatten you...
Kraden: I should have realized sooner, but your chosen name, Arcanus, had me distracted for a while.
Alex: Oh, really? Why was that?
Kraden: Well, in my travels, I had heard of a deck of cards used for telling fortunes...
Alex: Go on.
Kraden: Two of the suits of that deck are Swords and Cups, very similar to our "Blados" and "Chalis."
Alex: And how would that relate to my assumed name?
Kraden: "Arcanus" sounds like the term for the most important cards in the deck. It seemed more than coincidence.
Karis: It figures that you'd name yourself for the most important part...
Alex: That's quite a theory, Kraden. I'd love to hear more, but I'm pressed for time.
Amiti: What is so pressing?
Alex: The Tuaparang.
[We see a shot of theirKoopa Kid ship flying overhead for a bit. A few pods fall out of it.]
Matthew: ?!
Karis: Wh-what do you mean?
Tyrell: I've got a bad feeling about this...
Rief: What IS that?
Amiti: Oh!
Sveta: Look out, everyone!
Eoleo: It's them, all right.
Himi: Who?
[The four pods land and open, revealing soldiers.]
Blados: [off-screen] You're TALKING to them, Arcanus?!
[He materializes behind him.]
Blados: Why aren't you just KILLING them?
Chalis: [off-screen] That's actually not his name.
[She materializes next to Blados.]
Chalis: Alex, was it?
Alex: You were eavesdropping. How rude.
Blados: You traveled with the old man? Does that make you one of the "Warriors of Vale"?
Rief: No! Alex was NOT one of the Warriors of Vale. He was a power-mongering schemer. He'll probably betray you lot as well. I don't think he's ever honored a vow or promise.
Karis: You can't really be Alex. Alex tried to use the Golden Sun to become an immortal, but he failed and was killed.
[Alex just looks cheerful.]
Blados: Alex, Arcanus, who cares?
[Alex still only smiles.]
Blados: I never liked you and your superior tone.
Chalis: Keep your temper in check, Blados. The High Empyror would not want us fighting amongst ourselves.
Blados: Hmph.
Alex: Your expression suggests that Imperial loyalty is not the first of your priorities.
Chalis: Funny, Alex. Your expression says the same thing.
Alex: Perhaps, then, it is finally time for us to untangle our remaining webs of deception.
Blados: What are you saying?
Chalis: We have our orders, Arcanus. We will not deviate from them.
Alex: Our orders are that Matthew should activate the Apollo Lens. The methods are ours to choose. I have determined that the truth is now our best weapon. Matthew, you should know that the Tuaparang are scions of the Umbra Clan, also called Dark Adepts.
Matthew: ?!
Tyrell: Dark Adepts?
Karis: From an Umbra Clan?
Rief: What is he talking about?
Amiti: Impossible.
Sveta: Yet he seems to be telling the truth...
Himi: Another clan?
Eoleo: Well I never heard of 'em.
Alex: The High Empyror sent me to make sure the Apollo Lens was used according to his plan.
Blados: So the High Empyror doubts our loyalty?
Chalis: Or you're setting us up...
Alex: Naturally we can't really trust each other, but I need to ask one question: are those men who came down from the airship really Tuaparang soldiers? They seem to have strange powers unlike normal Psynergy... Just like you two. You are here for the Apollo Lens, correct? What will you do with it?
Blados: What a good question! Chalis, what will we use it for?
Chalis: Oh, we can't spoil the surprise, can we?
Alex: Based on the trajectory, your target is Tuaparang... Or perhaps the area around Sol Sanctum...
[Blados and Chalis start radiating a dark energy.]
Alex: Since you have not contradicted my deductions, may we now consider Dark Psynergy an open secret?
[Blados warps to try to surround Alex.]
Alex: Or...you still intend to keep it secret by eliminating me.
[Alex vanishes, then reappears in mid-air.]
Blados: I knew you'd figure it out eventually.
Chalis: You were always so very clever, Arcanus.
Alex: I can handle these two. Go throw the switch for the Apollo Lens.
[All three vanish from sight.]
Rief: Alex...
Karis: So he did survive the Golden Sun...
Kraden: So it would appear.
Amiti: And apparently there exist Dark Adepts in the world...
Himi: Would Dark Adepts have powers like this horrible eclipse and its monsters?
Tyrell: Dunno. And there's an Umbra Clan now?
Eoleo: I've been all over the world, but I never heard a whisper about 'em.
Kraden: We don't have time to discuss it now. We must activate the Apollo Lens while Alex buys time.
-Onward!-
[NOTE: Alex is only buying you time to explain why you can leave to do the extra dungeons now. Because it interrupts the flow and there's not a ton of text to them, I'll include them in the post-game section. Just know you can do all of them but Crossbone Isle once you have either the Sol Blade or the Treasure Note (which you can get after listening in on the spirits of the generals). If you do these dungeons, you can level up with the extra boss fights to prepare for the upcoming final boss and get some of the better summon tablets.]
