[Also on GameFAQs!]
Saha Town
[Outside:]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
S01: Kolima is the rotten little village nearby. It's not beautiful like Saha Town. Don't bother going there.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
S02: If you're looking for Saha Town, you've found it! If you're looking for dream leaves, keep looking.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Talk to either of the two people talking between the shop stands:]
Saha Town Item Seller: We came all this way for roc feathers. Now we can't get through the forest. Sometimes I hate being a merchant.
Saha Town Gear Seller: It's bizarre! You walk into the forest, and no matter what you do, you wake up and you're back at the entrance!
Saha Town Item Seller: The other day we tried hiring a guard to escort us into the forest...but we still just woke up outside the woods.
Saha Town Gear Seller: We, uh, haven't seen any sign of our guard, though...
Saha Town Item Seller: I still think he turned into a tree. It's the only answer that makes any sense.
Saha Town Gear Seller: At any rate, we're done trying our luck in there. We're all about sending hirelings in for us.
Saha Town Item Seller: By the way, if you guys want to be rich, go in and get us a roc feather! You'll never worry about money again!
Saha Town Gear Seller: Yes, yes! You guys look like natural feather finders! And we're wealthier than we look! Go get it for us!
[They head to their stands.]
-Onward!-
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Saha Town Gear Seller: If you can bring me a feather from a Mountain Roc, I'll pay you handsomely. Please consider it for my sake.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Saha Town Item Seller: Hey, if you ever want to be rich, just get me one Mountain Roc feather. You'll never have to work again.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
S03: If you're looking for dream leaves, you'll need to look in Kolima Village, though I hear the gate there is closed.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
S04: Some people come from very far away to catch a glimpse of the fairy-tale village of Kolima. Is that why you're here? I guess I understand why someone would travel to see an entire village built into trees... Unfortunately, the gate between Saha and Kolima is closed right now, so you can't get in.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Text: The plaque on this statue describes the subject as a crusader for peace between humans and beastmen.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
S05: Kolima used to be near Bilibin. It actually moved 30 years ago when the Golden Sun changed everything. This upheaval gave it the nickname "the accursed village," though now I think there really IS a curse there.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
S06: There's nothing like dream leaf when you can't sleep. I'm not going home without some.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
S07: I came here to buy some dream leaves in Kolima, but now the gate is closed! Should I wait around in case it opens?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sign: Warning! Old wells are dangerous! Good boys and girls stay out! -Saha Safety Council-
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Inside:]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
S08: When I was young, I lived in Bilibin and didn't know much about the cursed village. The tale of Kolima was considered too frightening to tell children. If I had known, I wouldn't have come.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oven: The lady of the house is frying an egg. Mmmm...eggs.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Book: The Travails of Kolima Village: Long ago, all of the people of a village found their feet turned into roots. Before long, the people were turned entirely into trees, until four heroes ended the curse and saved them.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
S09: I'm not allowed to go to Kolima, but I really want to. Is it true that it's just one giant tree house?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Book: Imil's Springs of Hope: The home of the Mercury Clan contains a spring whose water can heal any plant.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oven: Some kind of meat-stuffed pastry. Perfect portable food for the on-the-go peasant.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
S10: I heard that one of the four great trees of Kolima Village is sick and is cursing the village. Years ago, the villagers were turned into trees. Seems like a lousy place to live...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
S11: It was when one of the great trees of the village became ill that Kolima became a place to avoid.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oven: Some kind of rich, red soup with meatballs floating in it. Seems like a perfect comfort food.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Book: Saha Town's Marshland - Part 1: Once the town of Saha was surrounded on all sides by marshes. While humans find marshland difficult to live in, many aquatic and amphibious animals depended on these marshes.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Book: Saha Town's Marshland - Part 2: During a great earthquake, the marshes were swallowed by dry land. The swamp was buried underground, as were many of its native creatures. The great Saha marshes were lost.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Inn/Healer's Place:]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oven: This hearty dish has strips of meat in a tangy sauce over noodles. A warm and filling dinner.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
S12: Most of the northern country was all but destroyed by the Golden Sun, yet Kolima was spared. Not only was it spared, it was moved all the way here. Is this what they call a miracle?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Book: Booming Saha Town: The largest city in northern Morgal, Saha was once a tiny hamlet. When Kolima was displaced, it brought fertile land to Saha's marshes, giving Saha an impressive population boom.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kolima Village
[Outside:]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KV01: In the daylight, you might think this was a normal village. Nighttime, on the other hand...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KV02: The Dream Tree has been looking sick, so I'm not sure I trust the dream leaves anymore.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KV03: I do hope that those who come here looking for pleasant dreams don't assume we are rogues and charlatans.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KV04: Those Saha jerks went and shut the gate. Like you can quarantine nightmares. Jerks.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KV05: I don't remember my dream last night, but it must have been sad. My pillow was soaked in tears.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KV06: The last time the village was cursed, the Warriors of Vale came to the rescue. They used some kind of special water from the Mercury Lighthouse. I can't remember what it was called...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KV07: Is something wrong with the Dream Tree? It's the only one you can't go inside right now.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KV08: You wanna know what I think? I think the Dream Tree is callin' for help, only no one can help it.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Vande is outside after the other two minstrels leave Belinsk.]
Vande: Why, yes, I am Vande. You were looking for me so you could hear "Arangoa Prelude?" You want me to go back to Belinsk and rejoin my band?
Matthew: [Yes]
Vande: Sorry, but "Arangoa Prelude" will have to wait. I came to see the Mountain Roc, and I will see it.
--------------------------
Matthew: [No]
Vande: Eventually I will go back, once I've gotten what I came for here. Our fans need us all to be there.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Inside:]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KV09: Thirty years ago, when all the big changes happened, the village pretty much died and we sort of lost hope. I left for a while, but when I passed through Saha, I discovered that Kolima was green again and had followed me!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oven: Omelettes with mushrooms from Kolima Forest. The fluffy eggs contrast nicely with the mushrooms' earthiness.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Book: View from the Top of Kolima Forest: The view from high atop this tree confirms one thing. The world is big.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KV10: People think our little village is cursed just because every now and then we turn into trees and whatnot. My feeling is that the little changes keep life interesting...and the big changes make life fun!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Book: The Sanan Invasion: Supposedly, Emperor Ko invaded Morgal to obtain Mountain Roc blood. Apparently Ko was told that roc blood would grant immortality, though there are no legends claiming this.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KV11: Folks over in Saha say that Kolima is cursed, but what do they know? We may have had some hard times, but we're still here! Hear that, curse? WHAT ELSE HAVE YOU GOT?!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KV12: Did you hear somewhere that you can't get into Kolima Forest?
Matthew: [Yes]
KV12: Silly rumor. Outsiders can't even tell if it's true, since no one can get through the gate in the first place.
--------------------------
Matthew: [No]
KV12: Glad to hear it. Outsiders can't even get through the gate, so I don't know why they tell such stories.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oven: It's jam made from wild strawberries picked from Kolima Forest. The smell is tart-sweet perfection.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Book: Kolima Forest, Cradle of Life: All living things owe their existence to forests, from the ant to the elephant.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Book: History of the Sapling Tree: He was a shy tree, always growing where he wouldn't stand out too much. The other trees grew tall and strong in the sunlight, but Sapling always hid in the shade. That's why he was small.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Item Shop: ]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[In front of the desk: ]
Kolima Item Seller: I'm not selling dream leaves right now. All the current crop does is give nightmares, which don't sell.
Kolima Item Seller: People have always used dream leaves to ensure restful sleep, but recently all the leaves changed color. Anyone using these leaves has had nothing but nightmares...and my livelihood is a nightmare now.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KV13: My brother and I used to play by the Dream Tree all the time... Now Mom won't let us.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KV14: Hak— Ow! This cough really hurts... I don't even have a fever or anything...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kolima Forest
[Inside:]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KF01: If you're looking for the heart of the forest, good luck. No one gets very far. They all wind up back here.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Book: Lost in Kolima Forest: The path through Kolima Forest has never been clear-cut and simple. In recent times, however, it seems to have somehow gotten even more confusing and complicated.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oven: It's a Kolima-style rye bread with nuts kneaded into it. It smells like a freshly baked forest of tastiness.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kolima Village
[When you talk to the woman above the item shop:]
Kolima Woman: Business has been pretty bad since I can't sell dream leaves anymore. There's an old Kolima legend that says warriors will arrive to help if the village is cursed. Sigh... Hang on... You remind me of the Warriors of Vale... Are you here to help us?
Matthew: [Yes]
Kolima Woman: I knew it!
--------------------------
Matthew: [No]
Kolima Woman: I guess I got my hopes up, but that's hardly your fault.
(*Continuing*)
Kolima Woman: Sometimes you just get it in your head that something good is going to happen... When the river was flooding, warriors came and helped us. I've been waiting for their return.
[Anyone who played the original game might remember the girl you saved was named Jill. The woman will now be called that.]
Jill: I guess I should be too old for these sorts of fantasies... These days, we have to be suspicious of our dreams. No one can find their way through Kolima Forest anymore, and our dreams have changed. Something's happened. What is your name?
[There’s a pause.]
Jill: Matthew, eh? Good name. I believe you're the warrior I've been waiting for, Matthew. If you think you can take on this curse, I could bring you over to Dream Tree [sic] right now. There'll probably be some fighting, so get ready first, but what do you say? Will you do it?
Matthew: [Yes]
Jill: Wonderful!
--------------------------
Matthew: [No]
Jill: If you don't want to answer just yet, I understand. Let me know when you've made up your mind.
[Speak to her again:]
Jill: Are you ready? Can I take you over to the Dream Tree to lift this curse for us? What do you say? Will you do it?
[The Y/N responses are the same as above.]
(*Continuing*)
Jill: Let's get started, then.
[It fades to black. When the image comes back, all five of them are lying on the ground inside the Dream Tree.]
Rief: How did we arrive in this situation, exactly?
Tyrell: Matthew can be talked into anything—that's how.
Amiti: The saviors of this village, and we will be sleeping on the ground like animals?
Jill: [off-screen] Sorry! Bare ground is all we have!
[She approaches them.]
Jill: This is the only place close enough to the Dream Tree for it to work on you.
[The image fades to black for a second and then comes back.]
Jill: Looks like the dream leaves you ate are starting to take effect...
Karis: How can you tell?
Jill: You're starting to look sleepy. In addition to affecting your dreams, the leaves bring sleep.
[It fades out and back in again.]
Tyrell: Matthew's yawning is contagious. He's got me doing it too.
[Another fade to black then back.]
Karis: Ugh... I can barely keep my eyes open...
Rief: The bare ground is starting to feel pretty comfortable...
Amiti: Yeeeeesssss...
Jill: Sleep well, children. My prayers go with you.
