[Inside:]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TR01: Life in these highlands is a constant battle with nature. You can't win, either. The best you can hope for is an uneasy truce with nature.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TR02: You're actually trying to go to Morgal, you say?

Matthew: [Yes]
TR02: Good luck. The Khiren highlands are surrounded by cliffs and ice. Wait—how did you get here?
--------------------------
Matthew: [No]
TR02: Good. The northern cliffs lead down to Morgal, but they're so steep that climbing down is basically impossible.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TR03: My fishing rod broke, and I can see all these fish waiting to be caught! I wish I had a good, trusty stick...

[If you use the trusty staff while talking to him:]
TR03: Hey, that looks pretty sturdy. Can I try it out?

Matthew: [Yes]
[see below]
--------------------------
Matthew: [No]
TR03: Too bad...
-Onward!-

(*Continuing*)

Text: Matthew handed over the trusty staff.
TR03: Thanks—this should work great. Fish, here I come!
[He goes out the door.]

-Onward!-
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oven: The hearty, nutritious-looking vegetable stew is perfect cold-day fare.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[Outside:]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[If you gave the man the staff but haven't used Fireball on the Djinni yet:]

TR03: The big guy's taking a rest on top of the cliff right now. You can't catch him until he moves.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Whenever he's outside with the staff and the Djinni is in the water, he immediately catches it.]

TR03: That's...not a fish. It's a nice catch, but I don't think we can eat it. Do you want it?
Text: The Mercury Djinni Dewdrop joined you! It's set to [whomever]!

-Onward!-
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TR03: The highlands are a rough place, which is why you have to live with nature, not against it.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[You keep seeing the shadowy girl from the village from time to time here. She still keeps running from you.]

Teppe Ruins B1

[After entering a room with a statue of a face with a big red nose:]

Rief: This statue is enormous!
Tyrell: Yeah, and check out how big its nose is!
Karis: Yes, and it's also too big to move, so we've hit a dead end.
???: [off-screen] It is not just a statue—it is also a door, if you have the right key.

[The girl from before is now behind them, now standing in blinding light.]

???: You are surprised that I am behind you after you chased and cornered me?

Matthew:
???: You are remarkably relaxed for a person who has fought his way through a perilous ruin.
--------------------------
Matthew:
???: Ha! I am glad you enjoyed out little chase through the ruins!
--------------------------
Matthew:
???: Do not feel hurt. I was not actually running from you, though it may have seemed that way.
--------------------------
Matthew:
???: You are angry with me for surprising you. I must apologize.

(*Continuing*)

Rief: Was our "mysterious shadowy figure" really just this young girl?
Tyrell: She must have something going for her—she wanders through here by herself!
???: The people of Morgal have a refined intuition. We sense and avoid danger easily.
Tyrell: Wait—did she hear us talking from all the way over there?
Rief: Surely not...
Amiti: Something is definitely out of place...
???: Hmm... My senses may be more attuned than yours...
Tyrell: Huh? What do you mean?
Rief: Are you referring to our eyes and ears, or something else?
Amiti: Attuned in what way?
Karis: Besides sight and sound, we also have smell, taste, and touch. Are you talking about a different sense?
???: The people of Morgal are more attuned to the world of their senses than those of other lands.

[She finally steps forward and we see that she resembles an animal.]

Sveta: Ah, I apologize. In your culture, it is customary to introduce one's self. I am Sveta of the beastmen.
Tyrell: Whoa! She's a kitty-dog!

[She uses a Psynergy on Tyrell that resembles Mind Read.]

Sveta: Do not mistake me for a dumb animal. Our minds are alike, and I know when I am being insulted.
Karis: But...you aren't an enemy, right?
Sveta: I do not intend you harm, no.

[She uses the same Psynergy on Matthew.]

Sveta: But I sense that the more...cautious among you have their doubts.
Tyrell: You've been reading our minds?! Don't you have any sense of privacy?
Karis: My father has Mind Read Psynergy, but he's always found it a bit of a double-edged sword.

[Sveta approaches Karis and uses that Psynergy.]

Sveta: Yes, my father's gift was much stronger, and he was hated for it. He came to hate others, as well. You didn't inherit your father's power, but you aren't disappointed, are you? It’s a relief, isn't it?
Tyrell: Hey—even with problems, I think it could be handy to have a mind reader around...
Karis: Sveta is a person, not a tool you can just use. Don't talk about her like that, Tyrell.

[Sveta uses it on Matthew again.]

Sveta: It is all right. I might speak similarly if I were you, facing what faces you. If I were you, I would also wonder why I showed myself in the ruins. Is that what you wonder now?

Matthew:
Sveta: I have an instinct that my destiny is about to change and that you are involved.
--------------------------
Matthew:
Sveta: I am no looking for help at the moment, but thank you. My instincts suggested I follow you.
--------------------------
Matthew:
Sveta: I am not your enemy. I am as my instincts make me, no more and no less.
--------------------------
Matthew:
Sveta: I mean you no harm. I have an instinct that you are involved in my unfolding destiny.

(*Continuing*)

Karis: So you just followed us because your instincts told you to?
Sveta: Well, there was another reason...
Tyrell: I knew it! She's a...a spy or something!
Rief: Yes, Tyrell. This is where she just volunteers that she's a spy.
Sveta: The other reason was your smell. I found a bag under that rock wall... It seemed valuable, but there was also a sense of sorrow. I believe the owner is unhappy.
Amiti: And what does this bag have to do with us?
Sveta: You smelled the same as the bag at first, but I lost the scent once I started following you.
Karis: So you were following us to return the bag to us?

[Sveta nods.]

Karis: Wait—weren't those people looking for a bag back in... Where was that again?

Matthew:
Karis: That's right. Te Rya village. You're always so good about stuff like that.
--------------------------
Matthew:
Karis: Yes! Te Rya village! They'll be so pleased to get that back!
Sveta: It sounds like this bag belongs to these people you encountered, then.
--------------------------
Matthew:
Karis: Right, right, Te Rya village... They did seem worried there, didn't they?
--------------------------
Matthew:
Karis: OK, OK, Te Rya village! Don't bite my head off for forgetting one name!

(*Continuing*)

Sveta: I can feel that the owner of these things cares very much for them, so I wanted to return them.
Tyrell: Well, why don't you go back to Te Rya village and give it back to her, then?
Rief: Yes, it would be best if we didn't double back, since we have errands of our own.
Sveta: Alas, I cannot go to Te Rya village looking as I do. They would attack a beastman on sight.
Karis: Really? Why?
Sveta: Te Rya was founded by people of Sana who were chased out of Morgal but our king, Volechek. When he came to power, Volechek freed us from Sanan rule and much bad blood remains on both sides. Morgal is beastman country, so they would naturally assume I am from there.
Karis: Matthew, this bag seems really important. I say we bring it back to Te Rya.
Sveta: You are very kind, Karis, for wanting to deliver the bag for me.
Karis: Well, um, thank you, but I'm not the leader here. We need to see how the others feel about it.
Sveta: I understand. You might not want to be involved with the dispute happening in Te Rya. But if you'll deliver the bag, I can go with you to Morgal and be your guide in that country. How does that sound?
Rief: That's a tempting offer. Having a guide would certainly help.
Karis: I'd love to see the northern lands with someone who knows the country.
Tyrell: What do you think, Mr. Leader?

Matthew:
Tyrell: Great! ...Uh...I mean, whatever you say.
--------------------------
Matthew:
Tyrell: Wow! Sounds like we're taking you up on your offer, Sveta!
Sveta: Thank you. I look forward to traveling with you all.
--------------------------
Matthew:
Tyrell: Sheesh, don't worry about it! It's not like returning a bag is gonna be hard.
--------------------------
Matthew:
Tyrell: Don't get touchy! I get it—we're going. I just wanted to make it official!

(*Continuing*)

Text: Matthew got an elegant bag.
Sveta: Good luck! We'll meet here after you have delivered the bag.

[She runs out of the room.]

Rief: That Sveta cuts an intriguing figure, eh?
Tyrell: I think she'll be an asset to the group...with the mind-reading thing, I mean...
Amiti: She only offered her services as a guide. Let us not assume too much yet.
Karis: Let's just go return the bag. Then we'll meet Sveta and head north.

-Onward!-

[When you enter the village, Ryu Kou, Hou Zan, the woman, and another man are standing nearby.]

Hou Zan: I don't think there is anything more we can do.
Te Rya Woman: But what about Hou Ju's bag? We can't give up on it!
Ryu Kou: We haven't given up, but we don't know where to look next.
Te Rya Woman: I know! It probably fell down to the bottom of a cliff. I could just go and get it now!
Hou Zan: No, don't! It's dangerous to go alone. Wait until there is an escort available.
Te Rya Woman: We can't wait that long! Please let me go!
Ryu Kou: We won't let you go.
Hou Zan: You must see that this is not an option.
Te Rya Woman: No. Hou Ju's bag is too important.
[The third man shakes his head.]
Te Rya Woman: Don't you see that I have to help Hou Ju...?
[Hou Zan shakes his head.]
Te Rya Woman: ...Please?
[Ryu Kou shakes his head.]

-Onward!-

Te Rya Village

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TRV08: You cannot pass!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ryu Kou: We're busy right now.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hou Zan: We have matters to discuss. Please leave us alone.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[When you show the bag to any of them:]
Te Rya Woman: Wait— that’s Hou Ju's...
Ryu Kou: How...?
Hou Zan: How...?

[The woman takes the bag from Matthew.]

Te Rya Woman: There's no doubt about it. This is Hou Ju's bag.
Ryu Kou: Why have you done this?
Rief: We could tell you the whole story, but it would take all day.
Hou Zan: That won't be necessary. Matthew, I thank you from the bottom of my old heart. You have done more good in this deed than you know.
Karis: I-it was nothing...
Hou Zan: No, it most certainly was not. And our debt will be repaid.
Tyrell: Um, great! I guess we'll see you guys later, then...
Ryu Kou: You are...Matthew, right? I'm Ryu Kou. The bag belongs to my sister, Hou Ju, but I packed it for her. She went to Belinsk, the capital of Morgal.
Te Rya Woman: That was a secret!
Hou Zan: Young one, you are speaking out of turn.
Ryu Kou: Matthew and his friends deserve to know the truth. Hou Ju was arrested and is now imprisoned in Belinsk. But she hasn't done anything! Anyway, the bag you returned contains some of her things. I hoped to get them to her.
Hou Zan: The Morgal people still resent all Sanans for our occupation of their lands. We only barely escaped.
[The woman starts fishing around in the bag.]
Ryu Kou: My sister wasn't as fortunate. I went back to Belinsk Castle to free her, but that place...
Hou Zan: Hmm... I wonder if we haven't been thinking about this in the wrong way...
Te Rya Woman: What are you pondering?
[She gives a letter in the bag to Hou Zan.]
Ryu Kou: I think I know.
Hou Zan: Not now.
[He whispers something to Ryu Kou, who seems surprised.]
Ryu Kou: I owe you thanks. Perhaps we shall see you again.

[All four of them walk off.]

-Onward!-

[If you head further into town, you see Ryu Kou and Hou Zan leaving with three men.]

[Outside:]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TRV01: If it's Ryu Kou you're looking for, he's not here. You want to know where he went?

Matthew: [Yes]
TRV01: I don't know, and there's little hope of finding him. As a fugitive, he is good at covering his tracks.
--------------------------
Matthew: [No]
TRV01: Ryu Kou and Hou Zan were looking pretty grim. I'm a little worried.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TRV02: It may seem odd that the whole village is so upset about Hou Ju and her bag... But we all love Hou Ju, and since her capture, it feels like finding her bag is the one way we can help her.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TRV05: Hou Ju being trapped in Belinsk beyond all help has the whole town terribly frustrated.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TRV06: The Khiren highlands have been civilized for a while, yet there's nobody there. Know why?

Matthew: [Yes]
TRV06: The Khiren War started 20 years ago and only ended a few years ago. Tempers still run pretty hot about it. In the old days, we never had wars like that. Now we have to leave a big empty spot between two countries.
--------------------------
Matthew: [No]
TRV06: These highlands are the main battleground in a land grab between the northerners and the easterners. Finally, they figured out that all they were doing was dying. Now the highlands are neutral and everyone stays out.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[Inside:]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Te Rya Man: Are you the warriors who returned the bag to us?

Matthew: [Yes]
Te Rya Man: Thank you. Since my wife lost Hou Ju's bag, it's all she's been able to think about.
--------------------------
Matthew: [No]
Te Rya Man: Huh. I was sure it was you. Oh well.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Te Rya Woman: I know it seems silly, but it really means a lot to have Hou Ju's bag back. Thank you.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[Weapon/Armor/Item Shop:]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Te Rya Gear Seller: We've got some really good deals right now on slightly used armor. We've polished it up nice too!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Te Rya Item Seller: We're working on our inventory, but I have to admit most customers don't make it out here. We're in trouble.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Teppe Ruins B1

[When you return to the chamber with the statue:]
Sveta: [off-screen] Thank you for keeping your promise.

[She approaches from behind again.]

Karis: How did you— Wait, of course you already know.
Tyrell: Looks like you kept your promise too.
Sveta: I have come to meet you, but you haven't yet seen if I keep the promise to guide you.
Tyrell: You will keep that promise, though, right?
Sveta: Of course.

[Sveta approaches the statue and uses a Psynergy on it that smacks it in its nose. The statue turns, revealing a door.]

Tyrell: Oh! She really IS an Adept!
Rief: I don't think I've seen that Psynergy before. What is it called?
Sveta: It's called Slap Psynergy. Given that and my other powers, do you think I will be a worthy addition to your group?

Matthew:
Tyrell: Looks like we're all happy to have you, Sveta.
--------------------------
Matthew:
Tyrell: Yeah, she seems like a really powerful ally! I hope she works out well.
--------------------------
Matthew:
Tyrell: Yeah, it's a shame that prejudice against her people kept her from being able to join earlier...
--------------------------
Matthew:
Tyrell: Yeah! If she wanted to join us, why didn't she say so right away?

(*Continuing*)

Karis: Why do you want to go to Morgal, Sveta?
Sveta: I have...business there. I need to catch up to someone. But I will not let my goals interfere with yours. I accept Matthew's leadership.
Karis: Hmmm... I hope you'll tell us more someday, but that will have to wait. Let's go.
Text: Sveta joined your party.

-Onward!-

[If you go to the vine in the room:]
Sveta: If you are heading back to Te Rya, I, [sic] will wait here while you take care of your business.
Text: Sveta left your party.

[If you head back to the main entrance:]
Sveta: If you are heading back to Te Rya, I will wait here while you take care of your business.
Text: Sveta left your party.

[When you reenter the main ruins anywhere:]
Sveta: Are you ready to continue into the ruins, then?
Text: Sveta joined your party.

[As you make your way down, you enter a room where a pillar collapses.]

Sveta: Hmm...there are more exits here than I remember...

[She looks down and notices some tracks.]

Sveta: Ah...footprints.

[Sveta starts sniffing, then uses a Psynergy that shows a ghostly white line.]

Sveta: Monsters obviously travel through here. If we follow their scent, it should lead to the correct exit. If I use my Track Psynergy, you will all be able to detect the scent.

-Onward!-

Teppe Ruins

[As you walk from the exit:]
Tyrell: So is this it? Are we officially in Morgal now?
Rief: I don't know, but have any of you heard that noise in the distance? Like Sveta's Slap Psynergy?
Sveta: Perhaps it is the sound of the Slap Glo—...
[The others notice she stopped abruptly.]
Tyrell: The what?
Sveta: Oh, it's not important right now... To the northeast are the Kolima Heights. Belinsk is to the northwest.
Matthew: ?!
Tyrell: Oh, yeah! Kolima!
Karis: I'd forgotten all about it...
Rief: And Belinsk!
Sveta: You obviously had plans to visit some of the places in Morgal, I see.

Matthew:
Sveta: Ah, you were supposed to meet a friend in Belinsk?
--------------------------
Matthew:
Sveta: Yes, you are nearly to where you were going to meet your friend!
--------------------------
Matthew:
Sveta: It has been a long journey to meet your friend, but at least you are almost there.
--------------------------
Matthew:
Sveta: It must be frustrating to have had to wait so long to meet your friend.

(*Continuing*)

Rief: It will be good to see Kraden again.
Tyrell: Yeah, IF the geezer actually made it there.
Karis: Tyrell, there's no need to be rude!
Rief: Ahem. If Kraden said he will meet us, he WILL find a way to meet us.
Sveta: Where was this geezer person coming from to reach Belinsk?
Rief: What, you too, Sveta? He’s headed through Bilibin to Belinsk. Why?
Sveta: That could be a problem. Bilibin and Morgal are...not on friendly terms.
Karis: Are they at war?
Sveta: I...have been away for some time. I know nothing of...current politics.
Rief: Well, if there is a way to meet us in Belisnk, I assure you that Kraden will find it. Then we'll go to Kolima and get your roc feather.
Sveta: Roc feather? Have you been pursuing the Mountain Roc?
Tyrell: Yeah! Do you know anything about it, Sveta?
Sveta: I know...that it is the symbol of Morgal. And that it is a divine creature. And that one does not simply pluck the feathers of divinity.
Matthew: ...
Karis: I wonder what's got her so tense...
Tyrell: Yeah, all we need is one feather! She could help us with that...
Rief: I didn't realize we actually had to PLUCK the feather...
Sveta: I cannot go! I cannot help you get your feather. I would very much like to travel with you, but, for now...
Karis: Sveta, what's wrong? You can tell us, really.
Sveta: Karis, you are a good person. I like you very much...
Tyrell: What are the rest of us, then? Chopped liver?
Sveta: No! I also like Tyrell and Rief and Amiti and Matthew...
[They’re all happy about this.]
Sveta: You have all been so... Thank you. I cannot travel with you now... But I will wait for your return after you get your feather. I will go to Belinsk. You will need to send me a signal when you have arrived. Listen carefully. Find the band of minstrels that performs in Belinsk. Request "Arangoa Prelude." I will be listening for the sounds of "Arangoa." With that, I will say my farewell.
Text: Sveta left your party.

**********
[This next line appears only if you gave her a special item:]
Sveta: But I will leave you with this.
**********

[She starts running off. She stops once their lines start.]

Matthew: ...
Karis: We'll see you in Belinsk.
Tyrell: Um... Safe travels!
Rief: We'll meet again.

[After hesitating another second, she runs out of sight.]

Tyrell: All right, so if we're back to looking for the Mountain Roc...what do we know about it?
Karis: Not much, except for Sveta's reaction to it.

Matthew:
Rief: Yes, her reaction heightens my curiosity as well. What kind of bird could it be?
--------------------------
Matthew:
Rief: It IS an exciting opportunity to learn, isn't it? I'm practically tingling with anticipation!
--------------------------
Matthew:
Rief: Be that as it may, wishing we knew more doesn't help. We'll just have to do field research!
--------------------------
Matthew:
Rief: Agreed. If even Sveta fears it, I question what your father was thinking sending you after it.

(*Continuing*)

Tyrell: Wait, Rief—you've read a bunch of books. Do you know anything about it?
Karis: Yeah, this is no time for keeping secrets, Rief. Anything you know might be useful.
Rief: I only know the very basics, I'm afraid: it’s an extremely large bird.
Amiti: I saw it once.

[The others are surprised by this.]

Amiti: During a hunting lesson when I was a child, the Mountain Roc appeared in the sky. I was trying to shoot an arrow when a shadow appeared in the distance, too big to be anything but a cloud bank... In no time, the shadow was on top of us. A soldier yelled "Go!" and ran for his life. I found shelter in the woods, but as it passed overhead, I heard a faint, human scream... When the adults came for us, I was shaking so badly I could barely walk...
Karis: So it was big enough to snatch up a person?
Amiti: Far larger than that. When it flew over the forest, the flapping of its wings caused a windstorm.
Tyrell: You've gotta be kidding! Can we really take on something big enough to make WEATHER?!

Matthew:
Karis: Yeah, Isaac probably would fight it. He's also a veteran of countless battles and once saved the world...
--------------------------
Matthew:
Karis: Right. This will be like the test for us to be considered the new Warriors of Vale!
--------------------------
Matthew:
Karis: Come on, Matthew! It's not like our parents started off as expert warriors! They had to learn too!
--------------------------
Matthew:
Karis: Yeah, if he wants the feather so badly, maybe it SHOULD be Isaac fighting this thing...

(*Continuing*)

Rief: In any case, having Kraden with us can only improve our chances. Let's head to Belinsk.
Matthew: ...
Tyrell: Kraden, huh?
Karis: Agreed. We'll need him.
Amiti: I hope he actually made it to Belinsk.
Tyrell: He'll make it.
Karis: It IS Kraden...
Tyrell: All right, Belinsk it is.
Karis: Let's find Kraden!
[Matthew and Rief are not overly impressed at them saying so much at once.]
Karis: And we'll get to see the capital of Morgal!
Tyrell: And here’s hoping the Mountain Roc is nearby...

-Onward!-

[Inside:]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TR04: Even fur-covered beastmen have a hard time with the cold here. You must be half dead.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TR05: Tell me the truth: were you shocked when you saw my fur and fangs?

Matthew: [Yes]
TR05: Yeah, most people are surprised the first time they see a beastman, though we don't look THAT different.
--------------------------
Matthew: [No]
TR05: Huh. I guess you've been around a bit. Well, in this area, I won't be the last beastman you see, either.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Book: Fishing on Khiren Glacier: In our cold climate, insects for use as fishing bait are hard to come by. Cold-weather anglers learn to create lures that look like bugs. Or enough like bugs to fool a hungry fish...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oven: Hard-boiled eggs, but they don't seem to be chicken eggs. Hmmmm...
