Introduction pt. 2 (Tanglewood through Departure)

← Prev | Next →

[Also on GameFAQs!]

[After entering Tanglewood:]
Isaac: [off-screen] I don't like the looks of this.

[Isaac and Garet enter.]

Garet: Yeah, nightfall. Not good. The monsters that come out at dark will be on the prowl.
Isaac: This will make things much more difficult for us.

Matthew:
Karis: I'd be more worried if I were you, Matthew. This place looks dangerous!
--------------------------
Matthew:
Karis: Not scared? Fighting our way down from the plateau must have given you confidence!
--------------------------
Matthew:
Karis: Come on—we can't shrink away at a time like this!
--------------------------
Matthew:
Karis: Don't be angry! We were just too slow, and it got dark too fast!

(*Continuing*)

Garet: They'd better keep their distance. They wouldn't want to mess with me and you, Isaac.
Isaac: I'm not sure what to do about Matthew and Karis at this point...
Garet: Well, we can't just leave them behind, Isaac!
Isaac: Of course not, but they can't go on ahead of us either. Monsters will sense that they're...easier prey.
Karis: Easier prey?! Oh no, Matthew, should we be worried?

Matthew:
Garet: Not concerned? I guess it's useless to run scared, now that you're in the thick of it.
--------------------------
Matthew:
Garet: A little overconfident, aren't you? But I guess it doesn't hurt, since your dad and I are here.
--------------------------
Matthew:
Garet: Buck up, Matthew! You'll need to stay on your toes now!
--------------------------
Matthew:
Garet: Maybe you're not worried, but Karis has every right to be concerned.

(*Continuing*)

Isaac: Well then, tough times call for tough measures: we'll lend you some Djinn. Only until we find Tyrell, however. We're very attached to our Djinn, of course.
Garet: You were planning this all along, weren't you!
Karis: You'll let us borrow some Djinn for a little while? Using Djinn to battle will make us much more powerful!
Garet: Do you remember how to use Djinn?

Matthew: [Yes]
Isaac: Good, but we can never be too careful. Djinn offer too many benefits to miss any.
--------------------------
Matthew: [No]
Isaac: Then it's important to go into it fully. Djinn offer too many benefits to miss any.

(*Continuing*)

Garet: We should have one of our Djinn explain things.
Isaac: I'll have Flint explain it to you, just as he did when we first met him at the start of our very first quest.

[A sparkly brown light flies around and Flint appears.]

Flint: OK, Isaac! You want me to explain how Djinn work? You've got it! Hello, Matthew! Hello, Karis. I'm one of Isaac's Venus Djinn! My name is Flint. I've known Isaac since the day he first left his hometown, Vale...
Isaac: We don't have time for reminiscing, Flint. Please, just a primer on Djinn.
Flint: Always in such a hurry! OK, then. Short and sweet.

-How to use Djinn-
Flint: We Djinn are nature spirits. There are four types of us: Venus, Mercury, Mars, and Jupiter. We span the four elements! Venus Djinn are from the earth, while Mercury Djinn come from water. And Mars Djinn are from fire, while Jupiter Djinn are based in wind.

[A Venus and Mars Djinn are set to Matthew.]

Flint: When you "set" Djinn on someone, his class may change. In this example, these two Djinn make Matthew a Brute!

[We see the screen for setting Djinn.]

Flint: And that Djinn holder's stats, such as HP and PP, may change as well. Changing class can give you new Psynergy, while cutting other Psynergy. Experiment with classes to access new powers! Each Djinni also has a unique power. Throw a Djinni into battle, and it will help you fight. Now, watch how to do this!

[We are shown a sample battle of releasing a Djinn in a battle.]

Flint: After a Djinni fights, it goes into "standby." The class and Psynergies it helped grant are lost until it returns to set status. Distribute your Djinn around the party, and experiment with various combinations to see how they benefit each warrior. You can't pile us all on one person. We like to be shared around the whole party—so everyone benefits!

[We see Matthew being overwhelmed by Djinn, then they spread around the party of him and creepy shadow people.]

Flint: As I said, Djinn go into standby after battling. You can also assign this status in the Djinn menu. So why is standby useful? Because standby Djinn can summon powerful spirits into battle. Anyone in your party can draw upon the pool of all Djinn currently in standby. Now, watch how to summon a spirit!

[We are shown a sample battle that uses a Summon.]

Flint: Djinn rest after summoning. When done, they return to set status, restoring any class and stat changes to their holders! Did you understand everything I've said about the benefits of set Djinn and standby Djinn?

Matthew: [I understood it all.]
[The tutorial ends]
--------------------------
Matthew: [Tell me again, please.]
[The tutorial restarts from the beginning.]

(*Continuing*)

Flint: That wraps it up, then!
Karis: Thanks for showing us how it's done!
Isaac: Good work, Flint.

[Flint turns back into a sparkly ball of light and goes back into Isaac.]

Garet: OK, let's divvy up the Djinn.
Isaac: Remember what Flint said about dividing them evenly?

Matthew:
Isaac: Good, because learning how to set your Djinn is crucial.
--------------------------
Matthew:
Isaac: It sounds like you're ready to put Flint's lesson into practice.
--------------------------
Matthew:
Isaac: Learning how to set your Djinn isn't too tricky.
--------------------------
Matthew:
Isaac: I hope you're not saying that you didn't absorb everything Flint said...

(*Continuing*)

Garet: Let’s hurry it up. Tyrell is waiting for us. Gather around those crystals.

[They do even though the crystals are right there.]

Isaac: Ready, Matthew?
Garet: Ready, Karis?

[Red and brown sparkly lights go into Matthew and Karis.]

Garet: That takes care of dividing up all our Djinn.
Isaac: Back when I started out, I had only one Djinni. Think you two are ready to borrow six?

Matthew:
Isaac: I'm glad you're taking this seriously. Using Djinn properly is important.
--------------------------
Matthew:
Isaac: Don't get too carried away, because mastering Djinn takes discipline, Matthew.
--------------------------
Matthew:
Isaac: What, is being here at night frightening? No need—not if you have some Djinn set.
--------------------------
Matthew:
Isaac: Hmm. You'll need a cooler head than that if you want to master using Djinn.

(*Continuing*)

Garet: Isaac, wait. Isn't it time we talked about who should lead us into the Tanglewood? I know you said Matthew should lead, but I'm having doubts. I don't think he's ready. Not for what's ahead.
Karis: So Matthew shouldn't be the leader then?
Garet: Leading people into battle is never easy, kids. Back in the old days, Isaac and Felix were our leaders. And you know, your dad has never been the easiest guy to get along with. But we've always managed to set aside our differences. We're a great team. Especially in battle!

[Isaac looks around for a bit.]

Garet: What's on your mind, Isaac? Looks like something's caught your eye... Isaac?!
Isaac: Hmm...?
Garet: I said, what's on your mind? I usually can read him like a book... Even if it is a thick book half the time.
Isaac: Hmm, yes. Thick book. Funny. Now, if you're done talking, I've had a thought.
Karis: About the leader? Who's it going to be?
Garet: Stop beating around the bush! Say it already!
Isaac: Matthew will continue leading, of course.
Garet: Just brilliant. We're back where we started. You want Matthew to lead.
Isaac: Garet, stop. He'll lead, but now we'll help out in battle. But my son isn't ready to order around veterans like us. Are you, Matthew?

Matthew:
Karis: Why so happy? He just said you're not ready to lead them yet!
--------------------------
Matthew:
Karis: I don't think that getting too cocky is going to convince them...
--------------------------
Matthew:
Karis: I'm feeling overwhelmed too. I wish they'd make a decision!
--------------------------
Matthew:
Karis: I'm getting frustrated too. Their arguing is making my head hurt!

(*Continuing*)

Isaac: Just listen. Garet and I will only assist in battle if you really need help. But you'll still guide only Karis in battle, Matthew.
Garet: So you mean that we'll jump in only if we think that Matthew and Karis need us?
Isaac: Precisely. Seasoned warriors like us can swoop in fast if things get out of control.
Garet: OK, then you two should be fine.
Isaac: Of course they will, Garet. Now, let's get moving.
Garet: You heard him, boss.

-Onward!-

| Tanglewood |

[When you turn back from the dead end by the chest on the second screen:]
Garet: I can't shake the feeling that something's a little off here... Er, never mind. The forest is just making me jumpy, I guess.

-Onward!-

[Matthew goes back down the path a bit.]
Garet: Wait—now I'm SURE that something is off about this place, Isaac!
Isaac: We're not lost, Garet. This forest at the foot of the Goma Plateau is just living up to its diabolical reputation.
Garet: So, the Tanglewood has us in its grip already, does it?
Karis: Is that where the "tangle" part of the name comes from?
Garet: Exactly—and a forest that tries to ensnare you is a place to be feared. But we're Warriors of Vale, and we CAN deal with it.
Isaac: You're right. It's well after dark. We're caught in the clutches of the Tanglewood. Hmm... The sinister gases here... The lack of bright starlight... The Tanglewood is now at its worst.
Garet: The Tanglewood earns its reputation from the way evil energy tangles up reality with corruption.
Isaac: People say that those with pure hearts can see right through all this corruption.
Garet: This changes everything. The boy's in over his head. You should take over, Isaac. Are you listening to me?! This isn't some game, Isaac. My son is depending on us!

[Isaac closes his eyes and stands still for a while.]

Garet: What is it with you? Now's not the time to stop and smell the roses!
Isaac: Don't worry. We can continue through the forest—only some trees have become corrupted.
Garet: Are you sure, Isaac?
Isaac: And there is a way to blaze a trail through the corrupted trees.
Garet: Isaac, I don't like what you're thinking...
Isaac: Yes. We need to use Fireball Psynergy.
Garet: That's reckless! The woods will catch on fire! Besides, it's impossible for the kids!

Matthew:
Garet: Are you agreeing? Sure, your dad has the power. But your Psynergy? No way.
--------------------------
Matthew:
Garet: Just listen to you! All ready to tough it out? You're outgrowing us pretty fast!
--------------------------
Matthew:
Garet: I mean, I'm sure you could do it someday. Just not yet!
--------------------------
Matthew:
Garet: Simmer down. You only just got the Psynergy to throw a fireball!

(*Continuing*)

Isaac: I agree, Garet. It's impossible to use a fireball to burn these dark trees.
Garet: See? I told you...!
Isaac: We must find a way to burn away the corruption, which seems concentrated in the strange roots.
Garet: I suppose you want me to give that a try.
Isaac: Throw a fireball, Garet.
Garet: Would it hurt you to say please once in a while?
Isaac: Just do it, Garet.

[Garet tries to cast Fireball but can’t find a target.]

Garet: Where do you want me to shoot one, Your Highness?
Isaac: Anywhere! Just use your Psynergy already.

[Garet starts casting Fireball again.]

Garet: Hmm. Where should I aim it?

[We basically get an aiming tutorial as we watch him try to line it up.]

Garet: There's a good spot.

[It’s not a good spot. Nothing happens.]

Karis: Well, THAT didn't work.
Isaac: It's too soon to give up. Try another spot, Garet.

[Garet casts again, giving us another example of aiming and oddly points at Karis before finally trying another spot.]

Garet: No good there, either.
Isaac: Keep trying.

[Garet casts and aims again. This time the large inconspicuous flower flashes. He hits it, and some of the extra roots vanish along with it.]

Isaac: See? The path ahead is far less tangled now.
Garet: I guess you're right.
Isaac: I always am.
Garet: He's BEEN right about most things for the last 30 years. It's infuriating.
Isaac: So, what did we learn here? The corrupt trees have become possessed by evil energy.
Garet: Of course you couldn't just come out and say that up front, could you? That'd be too easy.
Isaac: I thought it'd be better with a fireball or two. It held your interest, didn't it, Garet? The trees are corrupted by negative energy, which goes hand in glove with darkness and extreme cold. Which means that the negative energy is vulnerable to light and fire.
Karis: The monsters drawn to this dark, cold place must be vulnerable to light and fire too. Got that?

Matthew: [Yes]
Karis: Great! Because you never know when these sorts of insights will prove a matter of life and death!
--------------------------
Matthew: [No]
Karis: Well, don't worry. I've got a mind like a steel trap, so I'll bring it up should it ever prove useful!

(*Continuing*)

Garet: So that's how to blaze a trail through these corrupt trees, eh? Well, some of us have fire at hand...
Karis: But only the weak spots on the corrupt trees will burn. So let's remember that!
Isaac: You'll need fire, and I'm sure that ONE of you will be able to learn Fireball Psynergy. But whichever of you it is, you'll need to keep one Mars Djinni set. Now, let's go.

-Onward!-

Karis: At last! The cave!
Isaac: And there's the soarwing.
Garet: That's it, all right. So I'm betting Tyrell landed up there, then climbed inside.
Isaac: He crashed the soarwing. It's broken. The wing... It's totally destroyed.
Karis: It won't be flying anytime soon...
Garet: What have you done, Tyrell...
Isaac: It could have been much worse, my friend.
Garet: You think so?
Isaac: Absolutely. We still have our children alive and well. Tyrell is nearby, Garet. I'm sure of it.
Garet: Thank the fates. At least he made it.
Isaac: But we still need to find him quickly. Lead us into the cave, Matthew!

-Onward!-

| Abandoned Mine 1F |

[When you check the Psynergy stone in the second room:]
Text: Strangely, the Psynergy Stone shatters—without restoring your Psynergy Points.

[Karis enters the cavern where totally unsuspicious noises are coming from.]

Karis: Tyrell?! Can you hear me?!

[Garet follows her.]

Garet: Shout if you can hear us, Son!

[Isaac and Matthew follow him.]

Garet: You said he wasn't in danger! Are you sure?!
Isaac: Don't panic, Garet. I feel his life force. Tyrell is somewhere nearby.
Karis: It's too dark. We can't see anything.
Isaac: Something isn't quite right here... Hmmm... At one time, this was a Psynergy Stone mine. Yet we've seen so few of the crystals.
Garet: Chalk it up to yet one more odd phenomenon we need to investigate. That is, if we ever find Tyrell.
Isaac: Throw a fireball or two out there, Garet. Light up this place.
Garet: OK. Easy enough.

[Garet throws two fireballs and kills two of the flowers. Upon trying to destroy a third, the Psynergy is pulled into a strange black and purple ball that seems to be the source of the noises.]

Isaac: A Psynergy Vortex!
Garet: Yeah, and it's just about the biggest Psynergy Vortex we've seen in a while! What's it doing here?!
Isaac: I have no idea! But be careful. Few things are as dangerous to Adepts as Psynergy Vortexes.
Karis: I've never seen one up close! The vortexes suck in any Psynergy that comes in reach, right?
Isaac: Yes. Let's hurry onward. We need to find Tyrell!
Matthew: !!!
Garet: Look! Over there! It's Tyrell!
Karis: Tyrell has passed out!
Isaac: He’s lost consciousness because the vortex pulled the Psynergy out of him!
Garet: That boy's fearless to a fault. What'd he do, TOUCH it?!
Karis: What were you thinking?! Why would you send Tyrell to a place with vortexes!
Isaac: They've never appeared inside this cave before. Not in all these years!
Garet: You can bet, had we known about this, I never would have told my son to come here!
Isaac: All right, quickly—we must go in armed with knowledge. The vortexes are pure anti-Psynergy created by exceptionally dense concentrations of Psynergy.
Garet: That must be related to all the Psynergy Stones that have gone missing in this mine.
Isaac: Another theory is that the vortexes, which appear in many places, merely foreshadow something worse... And that's the reappearance of the Mourning Moon, a single vortex of immense magnitude.
Garet: Either way, the Elemental Lighthouses that triggered the Golden Sun are at the heart of the problem.
Isaac: ...So our old friend Kraden believes. As he's a scholar of ancient Alchemy, his theory is probably right.
Karis: OK, consider us armed with information. Now let's get in there and help Tyrell!
Isaac: Of course, Karis. All this theory isn't helping matters. Let's get in there and save him.
Garet: One of those corrupted plants from the Tanglewood is growing next to the vortex...
Karis: It's awfully close to Tyrell!
Isaac: Hurry in there and save him with your Psynergy. And remember, Matthew, if you need to throw a fireball, keep one Mars Djinni set, not on standby. Now let's go.

-Onward!-

[Matthew shoots a fireball at the last flower, which turns out to be the Tangle Bloom, our first boss. After the fight, the remaining roots vanish and the vortex shrinks considerably.]

-Onward!-

[When you approach Tyrell:]

Garet: Tyrell, wake up!
Karis: Please, Tyrell!
Isaac: Tyrell has been drained of his Psynergy. Adepts need help recovering from such trauma.

[Isaac and Garet use some Psynergy on Tyrell. His eyes open and he stands.]

Tyrell: Ohhhh! And I was having such nice dreams...!
Garet: What?! You oaf! Is that the thanks we get? We were worried about you!
Tyrell: Worried? Oh, yeah... Now I remember... I crashed the soarwing... The wing broke...
Garet: It broke? More like you broke IT!
Karis: We were sick with worry, Tyrell.

Matthew:
Tyrell: Glad to see me? You're a good friend, Matthew.
--------------------------
Matthew:
Tyrell: OK, OK! I get it! You were worried too!
--------------------------
Matthew:
Tyrell: Hope I didn't upset you too much, Matthew. But, hey! I'm still alive, right?
--------------------------
Matthew:
Tyrell: Hey! I didn't MEAN to worry you!

(*Continuing*)

Isaac: We're all glad to see you safe, Tyrell. We should be thankful you made it through all this without serious injury. Or it would have delayed the start of your trip.
Tyrell: My trip? What trip?
Isaac: We have to get the soarwing in working order as soon as possible. You're going to help us fix it.
Garet: As much as I would like to shelter you, Tyrell, you've just gone too far this time...
Karis: My father put some very rare resources into building that soarwing for Isaac and Garet.
Isaac: We can make most of the repairs ourselves. But we lack a major material to fix it fully.
Karis: The rare material comes from the feathers of a very... unusual bird. We need a feather from a Mountain Roc, a mammoth bird that roosts far across the continent. Way off at the far side of the country of Morgal, in fact.
Isaac: The trip will be difficult. But first we need to get you rested up at the cabin, all right?

-Onward!-

[Fun fact: If you cast Fireball or Whirlwind on the Psynergy vortex, you can watch it absorb it.]

[Matthew exits the mine and is right by the remains of the soarwing.]

Isaac: OK, secure the soarwing! Then let's get back to the cabin!

[Everyone but Tyrell starts working on picking it up. Garet gets mad. Fade to black.]

Karis: What?! You're sending Matthew and Tyrell off on their own?

[We see them back in Lookout Cabin.]

Isaac: I'm shocked Karis. It's not like you to get so riled up.
Karis: Look—I want to see my father's soarwing fixed just as much as you do. But you need that Mountain Roc feather, and you were saying how hard it was getting the last one!
Isaac: True enough. We had to travel through the swollen realm of Bilibin, through Border Town, then to Morgal beyond. Our quest for the Mountain Roc feather was long and hard, given how radically Angara has changed. But we need that soarwing fixed. Since Garet and I have to stay here and monitor Mount Aleph, that leaves only the boys to fetch that feather for us. You know how hard we're working with your father to study the aftereffects of the Golden Sun.
Karis: How could I not? We have the busiest parents in Angara!
Garet: Then you also know how vital the soarwing is to our efforts. Without it, we can't get near Mount Aleph. I can't believe that my own son would risk the soarwing. It's about time he got straightened out. And a tough quest for the feather is just the thing to do it.
Isaac: But Tyrell can’t do it alone, so I'm sending Matthew with him. They're practically brothers.
Garet: Sorry you got dragged into all this, Matthew. Are you looking forward to setting off with Tyrell?

Matthew: [Yes]
Garet: You'll never forget your first quest! But don't forget to keep an eye on Tyrell, OK?
--------------------------
Matthew: [No]
Garet: C'mon—it'll be a real adventure! Sure, I know Tyrell can be a real handful at times...

(*Continuing*)

Isaac: Garet, we shouldn't delay them any further. The boys need to leave immediately.
Karis: What? Just like that? So soon?
Isaac: Our first quest began just as suddenly, Karis. Thirty years ago, we were catapulted into action when we met Kraden. His study of Alchemy changed our lives.
Garet: Good ol' Kraden. Hey, didn't our friend the Alchemist say he would pay us a visit soon?
Isaac: Hmmm... so he did.

[Isaac seems to have an idea.]

Garet: Er, Isaac? Oh boy, I know THAT look... You're hatching a plan.
Isaac: Kraden's just the thing...
Garet: Out with it, Isaac. He's got that far-off look on his face—that means he's having a good idea... Usually, anyway.
Isaac: Kraden might be willing to help the boys out with this.
Garet: Yeah, I think the boys would benefit from Kraden's help.
Tyrell: Tell me who Kraden is again? I sort of remember this ancient, crusty guy visiting the cabin once...
Garet: Sure, he's old as the hills, but have some respect for Kraden.
Karis: He was that old scholar who helped you all those years ago!
Isaac: Yes, Kraden helped us when we were young warriors, so I bet he'd even enjoy helping out our children.
Garet: You sure he's up to the task?
Isaac: Why wouldn't he be?
Garet: I mean, Kraden IS getting up there in years, Isaac. It's been three decades since he helped us.
Isaac: Sure, it's been 30 years since that quest ended, but we've hardly aged. I'm sure Kraden's the same.
Karis: It's the same with my father. He says he looks a smidge older than back then—but not much!
Garet: Ivan believes that those of us directly exposed to the power of the Golden Sun have aged very little.
Karis: How weird to know I'll grow older while you adults stay the same. It's like... getting left behind. Hmm. You know what? I want in on this quest! I'm going with Matthew and Tyrell!
Garet: Don't be ridiculous, Karis. You don't know the first thing about adventuring!
Isaac: Garet, stop. She's a Wind Adept, and her powers will help. It's settled. The three of you will leave immediately.
Garet: Fess up, Isaac. You had this planned all along, didn't you?
Isaac: We mustn't waste another minute. I'll contact Kraden while you kids pack.
Tyrell: Seriously?! We're really leaving THAT soon?

[Isaac nods and starts walking off, but then he stops.]

Karis: Talk about pushing us out of the nest! But we know nothing about going so far away! Where did you say that feather was? Somewhere in Morgal?
Isaac: This isn't a vacation. It's a quest into the unknown. So the sooner you begin, the sooner you'll find your way.
Karis: What?! You mean you're sending us off to meet your friend Kraden and giving us NO more details?
Isaac: Kraden is a genius when it comes to charting a course into the unknown. You'll be in excellent hands. I think I should arrange to have you all meet in Carver’s Camp. That’s not so far away. Kraden recently sent one of his carrier pigeons to the cabin... I'll send it back to him with my request.

[Isaac finishes leaving.]

Karis: Why can't we just wait here? Didn't that carrier pigeon bring word he was coming? You can't just send us on our way like this! I mean, it's getting dark outside!
Garet: He's made up his mind that it's time for you to grow into warriors. He needs your help. Besides, Isaac is consumed by concern about what's going on out there. We need that soarwing fixed.
Tyrell: If you ask me, it sounds like Isaac needs to fly that soarwing to Sol Sanctum on Mount Aleph. The mountain has been erupting for a long time, so there's only one way there—by air.
Karis: He can't get to Sol Sanctum until the soarwing is fixed.
Tyrell: I think he needs to return to where THEIR quest began.
Karis: It must be serious. That's not the kind of place you can just go to for old time's sake...
Tyrell: Well... I guess we won't be seeing this place for a while.
Karis: This will be our first trip away from here. Take a long look. You never know when we'll be back home.
Garet: When I left Vale, I was just 17. My life was never the same. Think you're ready for all this?

Matthew:
Tyrell: I'm with Matthew! We're totally ready for an adventure.
--------------------------
Matthew:
Tyrell: I'm with Matthew! We're so completely ready for this!
--------------------------
Matthew:
Tyrell: I get why Matthew would feel that way. It's sad to leave home. But I think it's exciting too.
--------------------------
Matthew:
Tyrell: I'm with Matthew! Of course we're ready for this!

(*Continuing*)

Karis: Well, I know I'm ready to start this quest too. So how about we get going?

Matthew: [Yes]
Tyrell: Right! Let's go get that Mountain Roc’s feather!
--------------------------
Matthew: [No]
Tyrell: What? You're not holding all this against me? C'mon, pal. Let's get that feather!

(*Continuing*)

Karis: It's like we were fated to go on this quest! So I think we'll be off soon, Garet!
Garet: It's good to start a journey looking forward to adventure ahead. Now go get ready.

[The kids walk off and it fades to black. The scene cuts to the Goma Plateau near the bridge.]

Tyrell: OK, Dad. We're leaving.
Garet: All right, Tyrell...

[Matthew seems upset about something. Karis looks around.]

Karis: Isaac didn't show up to see us off...

Matthew:
Karis: Well, maybe you're not bothered. But this is our first big adventure!
--------------------------
Matthew:
Karis: But it's your first big adventure! He should be here to say good-bye!
--------------------------
Matthew:
Karis: We're starting on our first adventure! This shouldn't be a time for sadness...
--------------------------
Matthew:
Karis: I'd be angry too! Your father is so stubborn sometimes.

(*Continuing*)

Tyrell: Hey, this is between Matthew and his dad, Karis, so we should just stay out of this.
Garet: OK, now head for Carver's Camp. Remember, you'll be meeting at the bridge there. Say hello to Kraden for me. And don’t do anything reckless out there! You're in charge, Matthew. That means YOU have to take care of these two!

Matthew:
Garet: That's what I like to see—calm and in charge.
--------------------------
Matthew:
Garet: Leave it up to you, huh? Now you're filling me with confidence, kid!
--------------------------
Matthew:
Garet: Hey, now you're making me worried! Don't make that face!
--------------------------
Matthew:
Garet: Don't give me cause for concern now!

(*Continuing*)

Karis: We'll be back with that Mountain Roc feather before you know it!
Tyrell: Dad... We...
Garet: Hey... Come on now, little man. Don't be blubbering. No second thoughts now. Off you go, Son... You'll be all grown up when you come back! I bet we won't even recognize you! Now head to Patcher's Place to dig up more information about your journey. Patcher's Place is full of fellow refugees from Vale. They'll be good to you. Just keep Tyrell out of Patcher's sight. That guy still has it in for you, Son.

[Matthew and company go running off across the bridge. Meanwhile, we see Isaac standing on the roof with a pigeon.]

Isaac: All right, carry this letter to Kraden, little friend. Good luck to you.

[He releases the pigeon and there’s a shot of it flying right by Matthew and he stops to look at it.]

-Onward!-

| Goma Plateau |

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[If you try to go into the cave to Tanglewood:]
Karis: We need to head toward Patcher's Place, so let's take those stairs over there!

[It pans over to show us there are indeed some pretty long stairs.]

Karis: There's nothing left to do down in the forest below. Let's go to Patcher's Place!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Garet: Do you want a reminder about where to meet Kraden?

Matthew: [Yes]
Garet: Kraden will be waiting for you at the bridge in Carver's Camp. It's a good place to meet, since the bridge leads to the valley that cuts through the Goma Mountains. But if you get separated for any reason, just head to Bilibin. It's our gateway to the rest of Angara. People from our side of the mountains often meet up there before we go any further.
--------------------------
Matthew: [No]
Garet: Hmm, if you say so. It's not easy for me to send you off with so little guidance.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[If you go back to the cabin, Isaac is standing on a rock outside staring at Mount Aleph. Simply approach him to get him to speak]
Isaac: Mount Aleph requires my full attention, kids. But I have absolute faith in Kraden... After you leave Patcher's Place, head to Carver's Camp to meet him. The meeting place is at the bridge at Carver's Camp. Kraden will probably be there very soon. I trusted Kraden with my life when I was young. You can depend on him completely.

-Onward!-
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Isaac: I cannot leave my post here, since we now believe that someone may be targeting the Wise One. This person has an absolute hatred of the Wise One. Why, we'll never know. But I must stop him—at any cost.

-Onward!-
