[Outside:]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HV01: I'm amazed you made it all the way to Harun Island through the storm. What bravery! Our village here is small, but you won't find another on the island. Welcome.
HV01: [SS] This kid's from the mainland. He looks like a good warrior, so I'm pretty sure he's not a monster... Pretty sure. But if I watch him too carefully, he'll know I'm watching him. I need to play it cool...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HV02: It is midday, but the Angaran mainland is dark, as if a fierce blizzard were blowing... Yet it is summer. Confusing.
HV02: [SS] I can't believe what we saw on the mainland. But weird stuff is happening here too. I saw a building appear on the mountain's summit, but it was gone by sunset. It must be related.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HV03: I'm supposed to be drying out this seaweed, but I'm not sure it'll ever dry in this weather...
HV03: [SS] My seaweed still isn't dry! Mama can't sell it like this. I can't go home until it's dry.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HV04: It's like someone put a lid over the sun! The mainland is all dark, and it's always night for parts of the island.
HV04: [SS] There's an entrance to the secret paths over on the western part of the island, where the shadows are. Do you think the monsters will find our secret paths? I'd have to stop using them...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HV05: I barely escaped the mainland. Had I gone to the festival in Belinsk, I never would have made it.
HV05: [SS] Whenever there's a festival, the folks who make my merchandise are celebrating instead of working. So I just join in the festivals with them and have fun. But this time no one's working, and it's no fun.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HV06: Would you like to know more about the myths of Morgal?
Matthew: [Yes]
HV06: You can hear folktales and such from the townspeople all around the region. But if you're looking for history books, there aren't any, not even in Belinsk.
--------------------------
Matthew: [No]
HV06: Yeah, I guess you're not exactly from around here. Why would you care about our myths?
HV06: [SS] Looking out over the land and seeing everything covered in darkness reminds me of a children's story I heard. It was about a sky spirit who shone light on the world but then was sealed in a cave so that all light went out.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HV07: Some beastmen only escaped whatever happened on the mainland because they were here. Frightening...
HV07: [SS] The light of the sun blacked out, monsters from the shadows, screaming refugees everywhere... The image of that moment will be with me for the rest of my days.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HV08: Their ship crashed on a rock, and all those beastmen came asking for our help. I have to say...they scare me. At first it looked like more monsters erupting out of the shadows.
HV08: [SS] It's funny... There have always been monsters here, but they seemed more...natural than these demons. The monsters never bothered me, but I'm shivering just thinking about those horrible things.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HV09: Yes, we helped out some mainlanders, but that's what you do when people are in trouble. We don't need praise.
HV09: [SS] I heard someone crying, and I was about to head out to help when my friend stopped me. I'm lucky he did.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HV10: Th-the monsters just...show up out of the sh-shadows... They never stop following you...
HV10: [SS] Do you see monsters in the shadows? I see them, but it might be my mind going. I'm afraid all the time now...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HV11: The myths of Morgal include a story about the sun and a black star that defeats it. Apparently the sun hides its face in shame, but that's all I remember. I'll have to ask Ikan, the storyteller.
HV11: [SS] I've heard all of Ikan's stories a thousand times by now, but I'm just no good at telling them myself. He may be getting on in years, but he knows his craft, for sure.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HV12: Don't tell anyone, but the cave on the northwest part of the island is where we play when we're bored!
HV12: [SS] Heeheehee! The storyteller told us about the secret paths all over the island! I can hardly wait to try them out!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HV13: The fishermen who traveled westward have not returned, and we are getting worried.
HV13: [SS] They left the island and headed west because they didn't know to be afraid of the shadows...yet. I'm guessing the reason they're not back is that those awful things got them already.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HV14: Is it so cold because Luna is somehow canceling out Sol?
HV14: [SS] It's freezing cold here, and we've still got some sunshine. What must it be like on the mainland?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Inside:]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ikan: I'm the village storyteller, but since my son and little grandson, Kaba, went missing, I've been too worried to tell my stories.
Ikan: [SS] Every time I try to tell a story, I just wonder what's happened to my son and grandson...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HV15: My husband has not come home, but I refuse to grieve. Nothing is certain...yet.
HV15: [SS] My father passed away... My son is gone too. I'm all alone...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oven: Seaweed dumplings, just one of the hundreds of delectable uses of seaweed.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Book: When a shadow falls over the world, it will herald the times of darkness. Only the power of light can end it. Use the eye that pierces darkness to find the protection of shadows. The last of these eyes lies in Warrior's Hill.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HV16: Have you met the old man who lives next door? He's a storyteller! He knows all about the old days.
HV16: [SS] I love the old storyteller. He tells us stuff he won't tell the grown-ups.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HV17: The currents bring the driftwood of broken ships here. After a storm, it can take a long time to clean it all up.
HV17: [SS] The only thing that washes up now is driftwood from destroyed ships. What has become of all the sailors?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oven: This vegetable slaw is made mostly of finely chopped seaweed. The sesame really brings out the flavors.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Inn:]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HV18: We've heard of Angara and Belinsk, but they always seemed like a far-off dream here on Harun Island.
HV18: [SS] Morgal needs warm weather soon, or there will be famine. We just lived through winter, and our stores are gone.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Harun Village Innkeeper: [SS] With the Eastern Sea filled with ice, we're going to have trouble fishing and gathering seaweed...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oven: A seafood soup seasoned heavily with seaweed. Is there anything in the sea that isn't delicious?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Weapon/Armor/Item Shop:]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HV19: When will this horrible thing that's happening be over? I just want life to be normal again...
HV19: [SS] The sailors say that monsters lurk in the shadows. I need to keep away from dark places.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oven: This seafood salad is piled high with seaweed. Chewy, yet delicate!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Harun Village Everything Seller: We get most of our items from the mainland, so we may not be able to get any more stock for a long time...
Harun Village Everything Seller: [SS] The storyteller says that "clean" weapons work best against monsters. Does our store have anything like that?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Book: On merchants: one cannot boast of selling things that everyone wants, no matter how many one sells. To be a great merchant, one must sell something that no one wants and make the customer ask for more.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[When you jump over to Kaba and his father:]
Kaba: Aaaah! Who are you guys?
**********
[NOTE: You can get two different sections of dialogue here depending on if you talked to Ikan yet.]
[If you haven't spoken with Ikan:]
Karis: Who are you two?
Kaba's Dad: Relax, Kaba. I think these people are all right. Or at least not monsters...
Eoleo: You look like you're from Harun Village.
Sveta: And you smell like fishermen.
Kaba: We both are, but my grandfather is Ikan the storyteller.
Kaba's Dad: Yes. I could have followed in my father's footsteps and told stories, but I'm a born fisherman.
**********
[If you've spoken to Ikan:]
Karis: We might ask you the same thing!
Kaba's Dad: Relax, Kaba. I think these people are all right. Or at least not monsters...
Eoleo: Kaba? I feel like I've heard that name... Maybe back in Harun Village?
Sveta: Yes, from Ikan the storyteller?
Kaba: That's my grandfather!
Kaba's Dad: And my father.
**********
[NOTE: The text is the same from this point.]
Amiti: You must love fishing to go under these conditions. You are fortunate that we can help you.
Tyrell: Fortunate? Fortunate people don't break their legs.
Kaba: I'm glad you're here. With Dad's leg broken, I didn't know what to do.
Kaba's Dad: I'm not sure they can help us, Son. I don't see a stretcher or anything...
Rief: We don't need a stretcher. You're going to walk out of here on your own!
[Kaba seems confused.]
Karis: I know that sounds crazy, but just relax and let us work.
[Rief approaches the father and uses Psynergy.]
Kaba: Did you see that, Dad?! When he was doing that, he filled up with light, then put the light in you!
Kaba's Dad: Eh? I didn't see anything... But...my leg doesn't hurt anymore...
[He sits up.]
Kaba's Dad: Let's see if I can stand up.
[The father stands.]
Kaba: You did it!
Kaba's Dad: It's like I was never hurt!
[He jumps a few times.]
Kaba's Dad: I can even jump on it!
Kaba: A minute ago, you couldn't move it at all!
Kaba's Dad: Who...are you?
Matthew:
Kaba's Dad: No one of consequence? But I must know!
--------------------------
Matthew:
Kaba's Dad: Just some nameless heroes, huh? I'll remember that.
--------------------------
Matthew:
Kaba's Dad: I didn't mean to offend you! I'm grateful, of course.
--------------------------
Matthew:
Kaba's Dad: Hey—no need to get defensive! I'm just curious.
(*Continuing*)
Kaba's Dad: If you need to keep your secrets, that's fine. But thank you.
Kaba: If you ever visit Harun Village, stop by our house! We don't have much, but you're always welcome.
Kaba's Dad: Hey—I was going to say that! Ask for Ikan the storyteller. Anyone in town can point you to our house. Time to get home, Son. Your mother must be worried.
Kaba: I'll race you!
[The two of them hurry out of there.]
Eoleo: Cute kid.
Amiti: That was very well done, Rief.
Rief: Thanks, but it was nothing.
Karis: These are the kinds of detours I like. Probably time to move on, though...
-Onward!-
| Harun Village |
[Inside:]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kaba's Dad: I knew something had happened on the mainland, but I didn't think it would reach us here. I was a fool. When I first stepped on the beach, the sea was quiet... Then a...storm? I'm just lucky you came along.
Kaba's Dad: [SS] Braving all those dangers, then saving us like they did... I feel like I've seen a miracle!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kaba: You should've seen my mother's face when I walked into the house! She was so surprised!
Kaba: [SS] Healing light seems to glow out from that guy. I wonder what it's like to be so holy?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HV15: My husband and my son are both home and safe! I knew they would return!
HV15: [SS] Oh, I wish my husband had followed in his father's footsteps and become a storyteller instead of a fisherman. If he was a storyteller, he'd be home all the time and I wouldn't worry so much.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ikan: [SS] When darkness gathered, the Watchtower would light the dawn, signaling a gathering on Warrior's Hill. It was the job of the storyteller to send the bravest warriors to the hill. I hope these are the ones...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[When you talk to Ikan:]
Ikan: Ah, it is the warriors who saved my son and grandson! I thank you most humbly. I understand that you have also used a strange power to mend my son's bones. May I see this power?
Matthew: [Yes]
Ikan: Thank you. It is much appreciated. Can you move a physical object so that I can see the power work?
--------------------------
Matthew: [No]
Ikan: If you don't want to, I cannot force you... But if that power is the sign of brave warriors, I have something to tell you.
[If you talk to him again:]
Ikan: I understand that you have used a strange power to mend my son's bones. May I see this power?
[The choices are the same.]
(*Continuing*)
[Matthew uses Move on the conveniently placed box in the house.]
Ikan: That power... How...?
Kaba: That's the light I saw... That's it! The light somehow made Dad's leg better.
Ikan: When Kaba told me about this healing light, I thought, "Is this them?" It turned out it was indeed.
Eoleo: Wait—can this kid see Psynergy somehow?
Tyrell: It's not just the kid—the old man sees it too.
Amiti: Psynergy is a power of the mind. How can a non-Adept see it with mere eyes?
Ikan: So that light is Psynergy... You must be the ones, then.
Kraden: The ones? Whatever could you mean?
Ikan: The ones to go to the Watchtower on Warrior's Hill. Warriors who wield weapons that are not weapons.
Kraden: Weapons that are not weapons?
Ikan: Yes—weapons not of steel or wood. The warriors who use them should gather at Warrior's Hill.
Kraden: I understand. Warriors who can fight and defend without weapons or equipment... Adepts, obviously. Is that from your ancestors' stories? The stories that have been handed down to you?
Ikan: They are not mere stories. They are part of a prophecy, a message from the past to the future.
Kraden: And what exactly does this message say?
Ikan: "When the light of Luna reaches the sunken tower, all falls into darkness." "What began in beauty ends in terror." "Shun shadow, walk in light, to escape Eclipse’s blight."
Karis: That certainly sounds like an accurate prophecy...
Kraden: This is no prophecy. Prophecies deal with the future, and this is our present, my friends.
Ikan: The tower in Belinsk was a machine built by the ancients to advance their art of Alchemy. It was powered by light, but it worked too well.
Kraden: They must have started it up as we did, probably with similarly tragic results. But what did they hope to accomplish?
Karis: Maybe they were trying to do something you can't do with Psynergy...
Kraden: Of course! Something beyond the four great elements of fire, water, earth, and wind! Given the results, we can theorize that they were trying to manipulate the fundaments of darkness and light.
Ikan: The Jenei once ruled all of Weyard as well as all four elements. But they craved yet more power.
Kraden: At that stage, if you seek more power, you are essentially grasping at omnipotence, are you not?
Ikan: That is as good a term for it as any: absolute mastery over all things.
Rief: Is that even...? They wanted to do that through Psynergy?
Ikan: The prophecy of the Watchtower also foretells that its champions will be quite clever. Exactly.
Kraden: All right, we'll need more information. What can you tell us about the tower itself?
Ikan: Nothing. I'm the village storyteller for an island you've probably never heard of before. What else do you want from me?
[Kraden and Ikan have a strange exchange of emotes and movements.]
Kraden: Hahahahaha! You have me there, sir!
Ikan: Heeheeheehee! I do what I can!
Kraden: Wahahahah!
Ikan: Nyeheheheheh!
Kraden: Ah, too rich!
Ikan: Ohoho, it hurts!
Kraden: Hee hee hee hee!
Ikan: Oh, someone make it stop!
Sveta: Ummmm...
Kraden: I like this old fellow!
Ikan: And I like you as well!
Karis: EXCUSE ME!
[They finally stop laughing.]
Kraden: Er, yes. We should, of course, get back to business.
Ikan: Right! If I don't tell you what the Watchtower champions are meant to do, then I've failed completely.
Kraden: Then by all means, speak.
Ikan: Thank you. We don't know if the Watchtower appeared where it did because the warriors had gathered there... or if the warriors met because the Watchtower was there. But we do know that Warrior's Hill was where it happened.
Kraden: Why were there warriors drawn to the Watchtower? What was their goal?
Ikan: To use this key.
[He gives a key to Matthew.]
Text: Matthew and party got the Watchtower key.
Ikan: There was a treasure sleeping within the Watchtower. Once found, the treasure would guide them on.
Matthew: ?!
Tyrell: I'm lost.
Rief: The treasure would guide them?
Amiti: How would it do that?
Sveta: How does a treasure sleep?
Eoleo: I don't get it.
Karis: I don't understand either, but clearly we need to get to Warrior's Hill and see what's inside the Watchtower.
Kraden: Then let's waste no more time.
Ikan: I see that you will be the ones to watch over the world.
-Onward!-
[Ikan repeats his last line if you speak to him again.]
| Warrior’s Hill |
[Once you get to the door on the top level of the central tower:]
Text: The door is locked.
[They enter and approach the pedestal.]
Matthew: ...!
Tyrell: Is that it?
Rief: The treasure of the Watchtower?
Amiti: A strange treasure, to be sure.
Sveta: Is this what will guide us?
Eoleo: I'm not doing anything a rock tells me to.
Karis: Could the treasure have been...replaced?
Kraden: Unlikely. The door was locked when we arrived.
Rief: No one could have gotten in without the Watchtower key.
Sveta: And the Watchtower apparently only appeared after the eclipse began...
Eoleo: Even if someone wanted to steal the treasure, this place is pretty high-security.
Amiti: And if the Watchtower were still buried, even we could not have gotten in.
Tyrell: Some treasure.
Eoleo: So now what? Do we ask the rock to guide us? Like "Hey, rock! Know a good inn around here?"
Karis: Maybe we don't understand it, but it WAS hidden away by the ancients. It's important.
Kraden: As usual, Karis is right. Let us have a little faith in our forebears. As it happens, I have some experience with ancient treasures. Let's just take it with us.
Tyrell: All right, if Kraden says we need it, that's good enough for me.
Kraden: Excellent. Let's grab it and depart.

-Onward!-
Text: Matthew and party got the Third Eye.
-Onward!-
